Adolescent Medicine

Submissions addressing adolescent medicine and genetic diseases that develop in childhood, including the transition of care from childhood to adult. (Not applicable to Updates submissions.)

Ambulatory Medicine

Submissions focusing on outpatient care of medical conditions (acute, sub-acute, and chronic), and the role, effectiveness, and innovation of primary care and outpatient clinicians and systems. Includes cancer care.

Artificial Intelligence, Clinical Informatics, and Health Information Technology

Submissions combining foundational principles of computer and information science with medicine to further advancements in medical research, patient data collection and analysis, medical education, telemedicine, and administration of public health care services.

Behavioral Health and Addiction Medicine

Submissions addressing mental health and substance abuse through clinical research or educational research. This includes a broad range of substances -- alcohol, tobacco, both prescription and non-prescription drugs, and street drugs.

Career Development, Professionalism, and Wellness

Submissions focusing on issues impacting career development, promotion, work satisfaction, personal and professional life integration, and creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for the generalist workforce.

Clinical Skills

Submissions focusing on the practical abilities and techniques that healthcare professionals use to assess, diagnose, treat, and monitor patients.

Geriatrics and Palliative Care

Submissions addressing aging, care of older adults and/or individuals living with a serious illness, and decision-making regarding treatments for individuals near end of life.

Global Health

Submissions addressing health challenges that transcend national boundaries or disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries, with emphasis on reducing health disparities, strengthening health systems, and developing scalable interventions through cross-border collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches.

Healthcare Delivery and Redesign

Submissions focusing on reimagining, redesigning, and implementing innovative systems to deliver health care more effectively and efficiently.

Health Care Policy, Advocacy, and Health Services Research

Submissions evaluating the impact of local, state/province, or national policies and/or advocacy on clinical and economic outcomes. Submissions studying access to health care, healthcare costs, and patient outcomes in order to find the most effective ways to organize, manage, finance, and deliver high-quality care.

Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Submissions devoted to the health and health care of underserved and special populations, and identifying and/or rectifying health disparities. This includes submissions related to race and ethnicity, LGBTQ+ communities, vulnerable communities, and communities facing discrimination.

Hospital Medicine

Submissions focusing on inpatient care of acute and chronic medical conditions, including the role, effectiveness, and innovation of hospitalists, emergency care, and hospital systems.

Medical Education & Scholarship

Submissions focusing on issues related to medical education (needs assessment, curricular design, curricular implementation, outcomes assessment, learner assessment, and remediation) in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education, in addition to inter-professional education and training programs.

Medical Ethics and Humanities

Submissions focusing on clinical ethics, research ethics, global health ethics, medical professionalism, the history of medicine, art, literature, philosophy, theology, and/or spirituality in medicine.

Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

Submissions that focus on quality assessment, gaps in quality of care, medical errors, quality improvement, patient safety, healthcare sustainability, and health systems science in the ambulatory or inpatient setting.

Social Determinants of Health

Submissions focused on the social and structural factors that influence health and health care, recognizing that the care patients receive is not shaped by the health care system alone. Also includes submissions examining how environmental degradation, climate change, and ecosystem disruption impact human health and healthcare sustainability.

Veterans' Health

Submissions addressing the unique medical needs of the Veteran population, including preventive health, service-related injuries, disabilities, and conditions resulting from military service.

Women's Health, Sex, and Gender-Informed Medicine

Submissions related to education, research, and patient care affected by patient sex and gender, including reproductive health care, men's health, and gender affirming medicine.
