Interest Groups

Interest groups are required to submit a request to meet annually.

Non-Educational Networking Events: Interest group sessions should not be structured or submitted as formal learning sessions, as they do not qualify for CME or MOC credit hours.

Planning an Educational Session? If you're planning to include an educational component in your interest group, the Program Committee encourages you to submit it as a workshop instead.

Interest Group Session Duration: Each interest group session lasts 60 minutes.

• Title: Include "Interest Group" at the end of your group's name. Examples: Fellowship Directors Interest Group or Hospital Medicine Interest Group.
• Description: Provide a brief description (300 words max) of your interest group. Include details about target participants, planned activities, and anticipated discussion topics.
• Coordinator: Each interest group submission may designate one person to serve as the session coordinator for the annual meeting. This individual will act as the administrative contact for the annual meeting and as the group's coordinator for the year leading up to the next annual meeting.
• Similar Interest Groups: Identify any SGIM interest groups with similar themes, in case space limitations necessitate combining two groups into one session during the Annual Meeting. Many interest groups have established online communities on GIM Connect, which are open to all SGIM members. Before submitting, please review the current interest groups on GIM Connect that may be similar to yours.
• Category: Select the category that best fits your group.
• Presenter Registration Policy: Confirm your understanding of the presenter registration policy.
• Interest Group History: Indicate whether this group has met at previous annual meetings.
• Scheduling Concerns: List any groups or sessions that should not be scheduled at the same time as your group.

Submitting authors are asked to select the one category that best aligns with the purpose of their interest group.

The Program Committee will make every effort to accommodate as many interest groups as possible. However, due to scheduling and space constraints, not all interest groups may be accommodated.

• Scheduling: Interest group meetings will be scheduled throughout the course of the meeting, typically during breakfast and lunch times.
• Interest Group Venues: To accommodate as many groups as possible, interest group sessions will be scheduled in one of two formats:
  • A standard meeting/breakout room, or
  • A small group of tables in a shared networking/break space.
• Combining Interest Groups: After reviewing all interest group submissions, the Program Committee may request that certain interest groups with similar themes combine into a single unified session during the annual meeting.
• Scheduling Conflicts: The online submission process allows authors to identify one or two other SGIM interest groups with which scheduling conflicts should be avoided. While the Program Committee will strive to honor these requests, they will make the final scheduling decisions.

Many interest groups have established online communities on GIM Connect, which are open to all SGIM members. Before submitting, please review the currently active interest groups on GIM Connect that may be similar to yours.
